Exquisite Russian Amber Russian Amber is one of the main natural resources in Kaliningrad, the Russian oblast on the Baltic Sea. Often referred to as Baltic Gold, this semi-precious stone has been known since the Neolithic Age (6000 years ago). Russian Amber is resin that was exuded from now extinct coniferous trees and was turned into stone by natural forces and conditions 40- 50 million years ago. The Baltic gem is fairly soft - both fragile and supple. Due to the ease of processing and the diversity of colors and tints, amber has been a valuable material for making unique pieces of jewelry and art since olden times. The most common color of amber is yellow. However, one can discover lots of shades from light yellow to reddish. Sometimes white, ivory, and even green and blue amber can be seen. There are many legends and tales about amber regarding its ability to preserve the remains of flora and fauna (fossils) inside for tens of millions of years.
